I’m too much of an optimist to remember the low points
I have lists and lists of favourites
J.K. Rowling, Roald Dahl, Julia Golding, Enid Blyton, Michael Morpurgo …
This is impossible! Books that come to mind immediately are: The Harry Potter series, Matilda Goodnight, Mister Tom, Journey to the River Sea, The Girl Savage. But if you ask me tomorrow, I’ll have a different list altogether!
I love rereading any book that I enjoyed the first time around, but top rereads are books that transported me to laughter and tears.
Only one? The power to grant wishes!
Always – to write better and better and better
Usually in the mornings when everyone is asleep. First draft – pencil and paper, sitting at my table. All the subsequent drafts – at my computer in a beautiful study. That said, another correct answer to the same question would be anytime and everywhere!
Silence!
I think readers and students would answer that better!
My first draft is always in pencil. I think it began with the idea that I could erase anything that was embarrassingly bad. But erasing is more trouble as an adult than I remember it being as a child.
Yes! When you send your first manuscript out, begin working on the second. That way, when rejection comes, it doesn’t hit that hard.
